When supplied by two independent AC power sources, the 2-source OPTS provides automatic or manual sub-cycle transfers between the sources. The AC sources may comprise of combinations of Utility, or UPS, or Generator sources. In typical mission-critical facility infrastructure, the application of 2-source OPTS between independent UPS systems has become commonplace. In this application, the OPTS provides the ability to transfer away from a failing source; to transfer to the alternate source during maintenance windows; and to sectionalize downstream electrical faults.
