When supplied by three independent AC power sources, the 3-source OPTS provides automatic or manual sub-cycle transfers between the sources. The AC sources may comprise of combinations of Utility, or UPS, or Generator sources. In the evolved mission-critical facility infrastructure, the use of 3-source OPTS provides the added reliability dimension of a third independent source in the face of multiple catastrophic events. In addition, the use of 3-source OPTS with three independent UPS sources allows the facility to balance OPTS/UPS loads. The end result is reduction in total UPS and battery system investments.
