Juxtaposed against TMR, the SMR system architecture relies on a single data acquisition and control system to perform all of the critical function of the transfer switch. While SMR is augmented by layers of redundancy of control power and other fail-safe mechanisms, the SMR topology, by definition, falls short of the goal of absolute load reliability. As a result, all SMR-based architectures are applicable to less-than-mission-critical installations.
